Overall
I am pleased with my outcome of my Urban Legend project. I think that
I have come far with my make-up
applying skills and have succeeded well in creating wounds onto the
skin and in the hair. My favourite part of this project was creating
my two final looks as I had a lot of fun in the studio with my
models.
I
feel that the look I have created for the killer has worked really
well as the styling, hair and make-up all fits amazingly together and
makes it a strong image to focus on. If I was to re-create this
character I think I would look into trying out more hair designs and
seeing what else would have worked with this look as I think I could
have pushed myself to create something more difficult and skilful.
The
second look that I have designed and created for the Victim in the
music video also worked out really well in the final shoot. I was
more worried about this look when doing the final as I didn't get the
chance to practise the wounds before hand meaning I wasn't very
confident when creating the look for my shoot. If I was to re-create
this look I would spend more time practising everything that I am
including in the final looks to ensure that everything is flawless
and perfect on camera.
I
am also pleased with the way my blog has come together as I think it
flows well and shows a lot of research and design ideas along my
journey to create two final images for a music video of my choice.

Experimenting for look 2: The Victim
FACE CHARTS
On this face chart I have made the skin pale with a bruise on the side of the jaw bone. I have based this make-up on the part of the music video when the victim realises the killer is under the bed and leaps out of bed banging his face on the bedside draws.
I have also made the eyes look sore and red as he has just woken up.
I had inspiration from Gareth Pugh's 2013 catwalk make-up for this face chart. I liked the sore red eye idea and thought I would turn the realistic look into an unrealistic fashion look.
I have also contoured the face with a greyish tone on porcelain skin so make the face structure really stand out.
Here I have again used the sore red eyes but the more realistic look as oppose to the fashion one. I have also included a head wound on the side of the head above the ear. This is for when he is again scared by the killer and leaps out of bed causing him to hit his head hard on the bed side table making it draw blood. I have included a single drip of blood running down the face too to make it look realistic and fresh.
As well as the head wound I am also going to create a deep wound on the hand, the same side of the body as the head wound. This is because as he hangs his hand over the bed during the music video, the killer licks his hand again, to then bite it causing him to leap out of bed and hitting his hand on the draws. I have added bruising and redness around wound and have paled down the skin area that it has occurred.
HAIR
I want to keep the hair simple for this look and just simply styling it into a messy bed hair look. I think this will look best for my final look as the victim has just got up in a hurry from being in bed when he is attacked by the person laying under the bed that just before had killed his dog.
I am going to put a head wound on one side of the head as he hit his head on the side of the table when leaping out of bed as fast as possible.
STYLING
For this character I didn't want to over style him as he has just got out of bed and so wouldn't have been fully dressed or showered. I chose this colour and item as it is a fairly plain and simple vest which would be tended to be worn in bed or on a casual occasion.
I ensured the vest was a baggy fit so that the styling still looked fashionable even though it is based on the victims bed wear.
MODEL CHOICE
I am going to use my friend Jack to model for the victim as he has the right shape body to wear the vest in a fashionable way. His hair is also perfect for my shoot as I wanted it to be fairly long on top in order to style it messy like bed hair. He also has it shorter on the sides which is useful for the wound on the side of the head on my face chart.
Experimenting for look 1: The Killer
FACE CHARTS
For this face chart I have paled down the face to a porcelain shade. By paling down the face I think that this gives the make-up an immediate ill look about them which will be a good look for my killer as they are found underneath a bed where there is no sunlight.
I have also made the eyes look bloodshot for a scary effect on camera which can be done by dropping a special product for the eyes that is inserted like prescription eye drops but has a red tone to it making the eye look sore.
There are sequins on the lips for some texture and to make the look more fashion orientated.
I have based the main focus on being around the eye area and lips on this face chart with bold black shapes and shadowing contouring the face.
The lip is solid black with a touch of silver shine on top in the centre area of the lips to make the lips look fuller.
I have made this look the same as the one above but have added sequins to the lips so that it will give a better effect on camera and make the look more interesting. I like the way the black shading on the cheek bones contour the face as it brings shape to the face also making it look mysterious 'in the shadows' as the killer is led in darkness under the bed.
HAIR
I have tried out this Mohawk afro hair style based on my research that I have done to help myself create this look. I have pinned the hair tightly into a pony tail and then crimped the pony tail and left it to cool. I then backcombed the crimped pony tail into a large afro and pinned it at the front back and in a straight line at the sides to create the Mohawk. It contrasts well together going from being sleek back tightly to being loose and wild on top. This gives a great texture and creates a great look when caught on camera.
STYLING
As I wanted to keep this look dark, mysterious and sexy, I have chosen to style my model in all black clothing. I chose a leather look material for a sleek look which will capture well on camera. I also added a lace chocker to wear around my models neck to make the neck seem longer making her look odd and creepy. I like the way that I have styled my final look as I think with the hair and make-up it will make it look fashionable and seductive.
MODEL CHOICE
When deciding on my model for my first look I wanted to find a slim size 8 model that was confident in front of the camera and willing to pose. I was able to ask my friend Lauren to help me out and model for me as I think she is the perfect model for my designs.
TEST SHOOT
I went through a test shoot for my final make-up design so that I was prepared for when it was time to do my shoot. I'm pleased with the outcome of the make-up as I think it worked out better than I expected. I am pleased with the scale and accuracy of the eyebrows as I was worried about getting them even and looking symmetrical.
I didn't practise the hair style on my self as I had already done this on my dolls head.
